Number 1 Activity: Conflict of Interest
The conflict of interest I have personally experienced was during a time when my brother who is a procurement officer in an American multinational company facilitated my supplies bid and ensured that it went through and was finally selected. After I had been given the tender to provide vending services it was noticed that the procurement officer was my brother and the confirmation that there was some level of canvassing between us for the contract to go through resulted to him losing his job while the contract for the vending services was finally revoked.
One of the ways I would deploy to ensure that a potential conflict does not lead to unethical behavior for me and others is by avoiding the conflict itself. I would ensure that I take uncooperative and unassertive approach to the conflict. This offers the best move ever as perhaps the issue may not worth attention or giving it some time makes the tension diffuse. Secondly, I would deploy a collaborative mechanism which would ensure that I merge the different perspectives of all the parties involved, building relationships and integrating solutions. Lastly, I would exercise an accommodative approach in which I keep peace, show reasonableness and maintain a focused perspective of finding a solution to the conflict.
When my brother picked my application on the vending services to secure a tender in a company he was working in as the procurement manager we were both hugely disadvantaged as the tender was finally revoked and he ended up losing his job for the allegation of possible canvassing.
The policies that organizations can implement to reduce conflicts of interest or their cost is by: establishing strict measures on members who are found plunging the conflict of interest standards and stipulate the parameters to ensure that stakeholders operate in a collaborative, balanced, transparent, open and ethical manner.
