Street Pavement Prioritization

When prioritizing projects, there are several preferences that every individual needs to have. Others are obvious while others are dependent on the situation. In this case, I will select two projects that need paving. These are Marshall Avenue and 3rd Avenue North, Downtown. I selected Marshall Avenue because most people were concerned that this area is frequently visited by kids as it has so many kid activities. I feel kids need to me made comfortable and safe at all cost as these potholes can be a cause of accidents in future. The second project, 3rd Avenue North, Downtown, was selected because of the depressions that were beginning to form. The depressions are not yet severe but they might get severe with time costing the authorities a lot more cash which could be used for other projects. I thus feel the earlier it gets sorted, the better in the long run.
Social identity theory looks at the ways that social identity can have an influence on intergroup behaviour (McLeod, 2008). Social identity theory in this case influences ways of fostering inclusivity and diversity by the factor of in-group bias. Most of the members in the two scenarios live in the neighborhood and feel they deserve to get the best compared to other members. In this case, inclusivity and diversity can be fostered by putting in place the following measures which are tied to social identity theory. First understand the issues. Before coming up with a plan for diverse, equitable and inclusive environment, getting to understand the root causes of the said discrimination and the systematic problems which result to inequity is paramount. Secondly, create a space which is safe enough to encourage deep conversation. In this case, relax and be yourself, have fun, share experiences and agree to disagree. This way, one can be able to open up more about issues affecting them and give deeper and helpful details. It is also important to encourage feedback and ideas (Terry et al 1999). Let people give ideas of what they want and after execution, it is important they give feedback to know the areas to improve and which are going on as expected.
Conclusion
In every situation and environment, people long to feel included. It is not only the correct thing to do but can as well yield so many innovative ideas. The policies and practices thus need to promote inclusivity and be free of discrimination.
