The Role of Human Resource in Organization Development

Organization development refers to any activity or process founded on the behavioral sciences, which either over a long time or initially has the ability to develop in a company environment. This development enhances interpersonal relationships, knowledge, income, expertise, satisfaction, productivity and any other desired results whether as a group of personal to enhance benefit or gain of the organization (McLean, 2005). Human resource is one of the most important stakeholders in any organization. Their contribution in the organization activities plays a great role in determining the company’s ability to fulfill its purpose. When well-managed, human resources ensure that they employ their skills, knowledge, creativity and expertise to develop each other, and to enhance the company’s operations, which include provision of services and production services. This implies that human resources have a high ability in defining the company’s ability to satisfy its objectives and to attain any other production and expansion goal.

Human resources play a great part in developing the company’s products or offering the company’ services to the customers. This highly means that they determine the quality of product or/and services offered to the customers. They therefore play a great role in determining the company’s competitive advantage. Their operations determine the company’s image and the customers’ level of satisfaction with the company’s goods and services in the market. They therefore play a part in determining the level of sales of the company’s services or products, and also in defining the best strategies to enhance various operations of a company that include marketing, and improved production to enhance customers’ satisfaction. This implies that, when well-managed, human resources can enhance high customers’ satisfaction and create a chance of increase in the number of sales through referral. They can also ensure that the company earns trusted customers that will always be ready to purchase their products. These are some of the aspects that boost the company in its development steps (Barney & Wright, 1997).

The role of human resource in enhancing the organization development and growth can also be identified in strategic human resources management. In this concept the organization defines its strategic goals, and the human resources define ways to achieve these goals by adjusting their ways of operations to enhance their functionality. According to Cania (2014), business objectives are attained when human resources systems, procedures, and practices are implemented and developed based on needs of an organization; when human resource management strategic perspective is adopted. This means, the organization management defines the new development in the company and the human resources management defines how to use human resources to accomplish the new company’s goal.

Human resources also ensure that they are always developing their knowledge and skills based on the changes of the world technology and the requirement of their actual specialization. This means that human resources can manage to implement new technologies to enhance the company’s competitiveness. This means human resources play a great role in enhancing the operation cost reduction, and enhancement of the company’s operation efficiency. This does not only increase the company’s profitability, but also enhances the company’s ability to expand its operation even further by increasing productivity and entering into new markets. This implies that in their normal operations, human resources can easily enhance the company competitive advantage, by reducing the cost, enhancing quality, efficiency, customers satisfaction, and alignment of the company’s strategic goals with company’s operation. All these create great opportunity for the further development of the company (Barney & Wright, 1997).
