Week 11 Discussion
This course has helped me to appreciate the importance of assessment and performance standards in adult education. It has highlighted how to develop assessments that meet the needs of the students. It has shown the importance of ensuring developing learning programs with the assessment in mind. The course has also highlighted the importance of performance standards. They ensure a learning program meets certain specifications. Performance standards also help in the development of quality learning standards.
The course has also enabled me to know how to develop assessments and moderation. It has helped me understand the principles of effective assessment and the development of relevant resources such as assessment tools. It has showed the importance of aligning the assessment tasks with curriculum demands. The course has also helped to appreciate the importance of moderation practices, which incorporate quality assurance checks and provision of continuous support to teachers by facilitating their professional development. Moderation leads to the development of good assessment cultures. I would use the concepts and skills in developing performance assessments in my work environment. The course has highlighted some of the issues that the performance assessments should focus on to ensure it captures the actual performance of the employee (Klenowski & Wyatt-Smith, 2013).
One of the concepts that should be added to the course includes how to adapt the learning programs to meet the unique needs of adult learners. This is because adult learners have characteristics that are different from those of conventional learners.
Technological advancements would change the delivery of evaluation programs for adult learners in the future. It would make it easier to evaluate adult learners. Technology would also increase the accessibility of learning programs to adult learners. This would increase the importance of developing effective evaluation programs.
