Module 13: Discussion of Operation Management

Change management is essential to guide the transition to various processes or systems in organizations. it helps make sure that people comprehend the system, adopt it, and use it (Stevenson, 2018). It helps in preventing system failures during the implantation at the start and finish of the system. Thus, change management deals with the resistance that arises among the end-users through different stages of its implementation (Hajj, 2019). It thus ensures that there is an effective process in transitioning to the ERP system. There is the communication of the change, stakeholder analysis, and training of the end-users.

Individuals may resist change, particularly if they don’t understand the adoption of a system or process and how it will affect their work. Moreover, others may want things to remain the way they are and thus focus on the status quo brought about by organizational inertia and hence an inflexible work environment that cannot handle change effectively. Individuals may, therefore, fear the outcomes that result from the change that can require training where some of them may not fare well or may have fears of becoming economically insecure due to the change. Moreover, people can resist change due to their traits, based on their previous experiences, personality, or culture. Groups can resist change when it goes against their norms collectively.

Cadbury is a British-based company that has successfully implemented the ERP system. even as its sales business operations blossomed, there were various problems associated with distribution and production and inventory processes (Srivastav, A., & Agrawal, 2020). To make ERP implementation, successful Cadbury had to extend resource management in its distribution processes while also having a management system for the warehouses. It reduces its expenses significantly while enhancing the efficiency of production. Departments were decentralized, and the company wanted the ERP to follow the current mode of operations. Siemens provided the system while IBM provided the infrastructure. The top management was involved in the implementation, which took one year in its branch in India. At first, there was a problem associated with the overproduction of chocolate products, which the ERP system solved even though it took some time to implement. The implementation involving the training of employees helps in reducing costs significantly. The vendor system helped the company and even suppliers in ensuring an efficient supply of products.
