Performance Management at Network Solutions, Inc Case Study
Performance management entails activities a firm uses to ensure that members’ actions meet its goals consistently. In the case of Network Solutions, Inc., the performance plan had functional issues, for example, employees’ performance was below par and nothing was being adequately addressed (Aguinis, 2019). As such, competitors took over the market occasioning an increased cost of performance management.
The positive outcomes resulting from Network Solutions, Inc’s system implementation included an increase in focus on the organization’s standards after the senior management got the opportunity to develop a plan for focused attention and consistency for the employees. Therefore, the system provided an additional focus for the upper management team towards lower level employees. This was evident from the plan which created a guideline for which the management could follow when implementing the new system (Aguinis, 2019).
Further, the system provided a detailed program which made sure that workers received the necessary training to handle the needs of the firm (Aguinis, 2019). As such, the system provided the company with a motivated and dedicated team that could handle problems as they occurred. The system was also critical in enhancing the capacity to meet gauges of the general objective.
However, the system came with some drawbacks, for example, imposing a severance package on workers who were underperforming as per the company’s standards was unmotivating for the employees leading to increased job dissatisfaction and losses to the company (Aguinis, 2019). Employees who cannot perform as needed should be retrained and coached instead of facing stiff measures. Further, the system required employee ranking, which could impact some employees negatively, especially those who receive negative feedback.
Performance management, therefore, ensures that firms utilize consistent methods of training employees in ways that reflect its goals. It also necessitates addressing the most pressing issues, for example, documentation of employee performance to ascertain the necessary career path and compensation packages.
