Research Purpose

Introduction

The research purpose statement is a statement which explains why a research is being carried out or the research goal. It identifies the study settings, population, and variables. An effective research purpose according to Burkholder et al. (20016) should be objectively stated or it should be stated in a way that it does not demonstrate any form of researcher value or biasness. The research purpose is normally created from the research problem and it clearly centers on the study development. This paper evaluates the purpose statement of a selected research journal.

Purpose Statement Evaluation

The research purpose does not start with a signaling world. One can only identify the research purpose by reading through the introduction. The research method which is qualitative research is also mentioned almost in the same section where the research purpose is identified. The statement clearly states the study intent which is developing proposition that connect main social institutional aspects with the three forms of ethical climate. The purpose statement does not mention the participants, but it mentions that the research site will be in five companies in South Africa and Nigeria. The statement is not framed in a manner which is consistent with the identified problems. It is structured in a way that it appears more like the research intent rather than the general research purpose (Parboteeah et al., 2013).

This paper is based on the qualitative research method which is based on single phenomena of establishing how organizational and country context influence the companies ethics and ethical climate in Africa. The purpose statement uses an action verb to communicate how the learning will take place, and employs neutral language to convey this message. The purpose statement offers a general definition of the main phenomenon but not into details.

Alignment among the Theory, Research Problem, and Purpose Statement

The paper research problem is lack of information regarding how ethical climate and ethics of human resource are influenced by the organizations and the county in Africa despite extensive research to evaluate this matter in other parts of the world. Its purpose is to conduct an empirical research, using qualitative research technique to investigate national and organization aspects that influence ethical climate in Africa. The paper investigates on corruption and ethical diversity, which are well covered in the theory among other aspects that are relevant in this study for instance cross-cultural ethical climate, ethnic climate diversity, and social institutional factors where their relation with ethical climate in Africa is referred to. Thus, there is a highly level of alignment among the research problem, research purpose and the theory (Burkholder et al., 2013).

Position on the Relationship between Research and Social Change

The research main intention is to understand the role both the organizational and country context play in influencing the companies’ ethical climate in Africa. The research result is intended to be used to assist human resource managers in effectively managing both ethics and ethnic diversity in Africa. The information will help them to determine the best strategies to employ to create a balance on the negative impact that ethnic diversity has on companies in Africa. The obtained information can assist in enhancing inclusion and cultural management in the companies that the research was conducted. Thus the research brings social change to the involved companies (Babbie, 2017).

Conclusion

Purpose statement is a statement that describe the why a research is done and it is normally delivered from the research problem. There are different forms of purpose statements which are structured based on the research intention. To enhance effective understanding of the research purpose, a researcher should consider signaling the research purpose and stating it objectively to demonstrate the research variables, research participants, and the research site
