The sociocultural factors refer to the customs, values, or lifestyles that characterize a group or society. Gender and racial attitudes in the workplace are the major sociocultural factors in my workplace. My work environment is characterized by high respect for maternity and paternity leave. In addition, the environment is characterized by diversity. Therefore, people are respected and treated for who they are. There is no racial discrimination or sexual harassment in the workplace. The organization has created an environment that makes it easy for people to report cases of racial discrimination or other forms of discrimination and sexual harassment. The organization strives to ensure there are happy employees. Sociocultural learning theory can be used to show the importance of diversity in the workplace. It would help in highlighting the importance of contributions of people from diverse backgrounds in improving the performance of the organization (Glicken, 2010).
Sociocultural theory stresses the importance of social interaction in the construction knowledge. According to sociocultural theory, students are not simply blank slates that can be filled with information. They have information that they have acquired from various sources in their environment. Therefore, it is vital for instructors to acknowledge the importance of social interactions on the ability of students to learn (Van der Zwet et al., 2011). Students should use learning strategies that require the students to interact with each other. The interactions should be enjoyable. This would help in reinforcing the knowledge of the students. In addition, students can remember what they learn from social interactions for a longer time than what they learn from the instructor during the normal course of teaching in a classroom setting.
